Different work processes
In addition to a lower air exchange, additional work processes also cause additional pollution. Think of next-day delivery, returns, RMA processing and light production. The accelerated rise of E-commerce prompted by the pandemic has boosted these processes within normal operations. Due to the many extra activities, new packaging machines that tear and cut boxes to size are used to increase productivity, but they cause even more pollution.
Adverse effects
Within the warehouses, the consequences of polluted indoor air are clearly noticeable. Employees go home with a headache or a sore throat, goods are covered with a layer of dust and automatic lines are increasingly faced with malfunctions.
But there are also consequences for the ultimate recipients outside the warehouse. Clothes must be hung in stores with two people because of dusty packaging. Labels are sometimes so dusty that barcode systems do not work properly during the transport process.
Clarifing the problem
Because the indoor climate is a dynamic process that is influenced by many factors, gaining insight is a must. After all, you can only improve something effectively if you first know where the problem is. The recently introduced Air Monitor System 5 gives managers a good insight into the air quality in their warehouse. The air is measured for a longer consecutive period so that the amount of pollution becomes clear. This makes it possible to respond well to peaks in productivity and seasonal influences. This creates a clear picture of the quality of the indoor air, so that tailor-made advice can be provided, depending on the results.
Flexible solution
Because the same polluting sources are not always present during the life of a building and the work process changes continuously, it is difficult to deliver a solution for clean air in a building-related manner.
Fortunately, there are completely independent systems that can be retrofitted without extensive interventions on the building. A good example of this is Euromate’s Dust Free Industrial. This industrial air cleaner allows the air in the warehouse to be filtered in an energy-efficient and scalable way.
In combination with the measuring system, pollution is actively controlled. The devices work harder when the air becomes dirtier and, on the contrary, they run more gently, thus saving energy when the pollution is low.
Additional measures
In addition to these solutions, Euromate also looks at other issues that may have an influence. Appropriate advice on the effect of automatic roller doors, air curtains, partitions and air flows are also part of our field.
