At the end of 2020, the distribution centre and service office of Welkoop Retail B.V. moved to a new, sustainable building. The distribution centre is approx. 20,000 m3 and serves to support 154 shops. After the new building was put into use, it soon became clear that there was a lot of dust nuisance. This was not the case in their old setting. Especially on the mezzanine floor of the distribution centre, the employees had a lot of trouble with the amounts of dust. There was a real haze on the work floor. Jan Jaap van der Dussen (Supply Chain Manager at Welkoop Retail B.V.) also noticed it when he walked through the building. “The high dust concentration led to complaints such as burning eyes, sore throats and headaches.”

“Another consequence was that there was a lot of dust on the products. As a result, contaminated products were regularly delivered to the shops. This meant, for example, that more staff had to be employed to unpack and hang garments that were in sealed but dusted packaging. For several reasons it was necessary to quickly find a solution to the dust problem in our distribution centre.”
Jan Jaap continues: “Adapting the ventilation system was undesirable and it was also very costly. When an Euromate employee called by chance on the occasion of the opening of our new premises and told us about their modular, industrial air cleaners I immediately made an appointment with one of their advisors.”

Jan Jaap: “During the meeting with Euromate’s consultant it soon became clear that their Dust Free Industrial 8500 units would be a good solution to our dust problem. The scalable principle particularly appealed to us, plus the fact that we are completely unburdened by the PAAS (product as a service) construction, which includes maintenance and filters. The monthly costs are clear and the PAAS construction leaves us with room on our balance sheet for other investments. Euromate carried out pre- and post-measurements to properly map out the dust load.”
Dust reduction of 75%
He continues: “After fitting the recommended 18 units, it turned out that we had achieved an average dust reduction of 75%, which in some places was as much as 80%. An additional advantage is that by strategically placing the DFIs, an optimum air flow is created. This means that in winter, warm air is redistributed and in summer, the same applies to cool air. This creates a pleasant temperature in the distribution centre all year round. Immediately after installation, the difference in dust reduction was noticeable. Our employees are very enthusiastic and there is also no more dust formation on our products. We are very satisfied with the result. In addition, we are very satisfied with the cooperation with the Euromate employees, from the first contact up to and including the installation and maintenance.“
