Introduction HVC
Middenmeer is home to one of HVC’s seven waste collection locations as well as an anaerobic digestion plant. HVC is responsible for its shareholders’ sustainable waste management. In addition, HVC produces renewable energy. They deliver this energy to municipalities, water boards, companies and households. They also provide support for initiatives to promote local sustainability.
HVC remains committed to reusing more and more materials. They do this through sorted collection of various types of waste. HVC is the Netherlands’ largest non-commercial waste collector. They derive sustainable energy (heat, electricity and gas) from waste, biomass, wind, solar and geothermal.

HVC has a customer service department that handles questions and comments about waste collection on one hand and energy on the other. The department has a staff of twelve people who work together closely. The computers on their desks are on all day. Because the office is located at a waste processing location, unpleasant odors regularly enter the office.
These factors combined to result in office air that was often stale and musty. A ventilation system that brings in outdoor air would not have helped, as the waste processing takes place right outside. The staff of the department were unhappy with this situation and turned to the organisation’s facilities management department. Fortunately they place great importance on employee wellness, so they began looking for an effective, fitting solution.

Mr Sjaak Smit and Ms Bets Bobeldijk, of the facilities management department at HVC, came in contact with the advisor from Euromate. After taking a close look at the air quality complaints, a VisionAir air cleaner was quickly installed. Employee Esther Bolluyt: “We can set the speed of the air cleaner ourselves. At the end of the day it usually gets turned up a notch so it works even more effectively. It’s such a huge improvement. When it’s off we notice the difference directly. Then we check first to make sure the air cleaner is on.
With the odour gone from the air, it’s so much more pleasant to work here.” An additional benefit is that the overall air quality has improved. There is also an air conditioner in the department, and thanks to the air cleaner the cool air is now distributed more evenly. Sjaak Smit, facilities management department: “The sales process was a positive experience.
