"We have achieved our aim of reducing air pollution by 70% and we’re delighted with the result!"
Paul Groeneweg, Production leader
Discom

Discom Introduction

Discom is a specialist company that has expanded over more than forty years from a supplier of silencers to an all-round specialist in exhaust gas systems.

Exhaust gas system need to meet ever more stringent requirements, while noise-mitigating measures are being tightened. In addition, authorities are imposing new  standards on emissions from polluting gases, yet in other cases, you want to reuse the heat from those exhaust gases.

Discom specialises in the integration of different techniques and technologies. It also supplies bespoke exhaust gas systems to the maritime sector, energy sector and industry in particular. The ideal system is always different, with many  different aspects playing an important role.

The Challenge

"Vapours released during welding, cutting and grinding can be extremely harmful to the health of employees."

Discom’s work is carried in three different production halls, two of which are connected to one another. The welding and grinding work generates a considerable amount of air pollution in the form of fine particulate. Inhalation is not only harmful to the company’s employees, and as the particulate settles, it causes problems with welding equipment and controlling the equipment. Vapours released during welding, cutting and grinding can also be extremely harmful to the health of employees.

In the winter in particular, when the doors were firmly closed, one of the company’s employees found it impossible to work in the production hall because of breathing difficulties.

Solution

"The fumes that are suspended in the air have since disappeared, something that has been well received by employees."

The workplaces at Discom are spacious, the production halls have high ceilings and people do not need to work in close proximity to one another. Personal protective equipment is in use, but Discom nevertheless strives continuously to make conditions more comfortable, and took the decision to optimise air quality. One of the advisors at Euromate carried out air measurements before offering advice on what improvements could be made. In thefirst instance, the two linked production halls were equipped with four HF air cleaners. After installation, measures indicated that air pollution had been reduced by 60 to 70%. An additional two air cleaners were purchased for the third production hall, used for stainless steel processing.

Discom also operates a site in Romania, which has since also been equipped with HF air cleaners. The fumes that are suspended in the air have since disappeared, something that has been well received by employees.

For one employee who suers from COPD, installation of air cleaners was a very welcome improvement. Now that the air quality has been improved, he is able to work in all parts of the production hall without experiencing any anxiety-related complaints.

Achieve favourable savings

  • Filters up to 90% of the contamination.
  • Customized solution for different pollution sources.
The Product

HF-Series

Euromate’s HFE unit is a very effective and efficient system for filtering dust particles. Even welding fumes and oily mist pose no problem for this system. The HFE system is built around an electrostatic filter and has an integrated fan.

  • A significant reduction in the number of faults and reduced machinery maintenance costs thanks to removal of fine particulate from the air.
  • Reduced welding and grinding particulate helps provide a comfortable and healthy work environment.
  • Energy-saving – removing particulate from the air via a ventilation system and conveying it outside generates high costs on account of the loss of warm air and the need to heat fresh air coming from outside.
  • The HFE unit filters according to the recirculation principle where previously heated air circulates and can be conveyed downwards again, helping to reduce heating costs.
  • For environmental and cost reasons, the preference was for reusable, cleanable electrostatic filters.
