What is ventilation?
Ventilation or air exchange is the replacement of the air in a room, which is polluted or polluted for whatever reason, with clean air. Replacing the air can be done naturally or mechanically.
What is natural ventilation?
Natural ventilation is the supply of fresh air through windows, cracks and grilles. When it is possible to open windows, this is an easy way of ventilating. However, it is less pleasant when the temperatures outside rise or fall and it therefore becomes too hot or too cold inside. Below is an example of natural ventilation: Green is clean air, red is polluted air.
What is mechanical ventilation?
Mechanical ventilation is the supply of fresh air and the removal of polluted air through a central system. When installing the system, it is set to the intended number of people in the property. When this number has grown over the years, you can imagine that the number of air changes * is no longer sufficient. Below is an example of ventilation via a central mechanical system: Green is clean air, red is polluted air.
* What is an air change?
An air change is the replacement of 100% of the air in a room with fresh air. When we talk about two air changes per hour, we mean that twice an hour 100% of the air is replaced by fresh air. This is also called a ventilation rate of two.
