People who talk, cough, cough, breathe or, for example, panting during exercise emit particles, also known as aerosols. An aerosol is a colloidal mixture of all kinds of solid, liquid and gas particles, with a size of 0.12 to 200 micrometers. Aerosols are proven carriers of germs and these tiny droplets can float in a room for hours. Breathing it in can cause illnesses such as the flu or illness from the coronavirus. All the more important that these particles are filtered out of the air.

"In keeping with the desire to provide maximum comfort, Diapriva feels very strongly about maintaining air quality in the room and has now found the solution."
Diapriva, Dialysis Centre Amsterdam Buitenveldert, started in June 2008 with renal replacement therapy in their brand new building. Dialysis treatment is provided during the day, night and holidays in a homey atmosphere. The dialysis clinic for outpatient care has 20 dialysis chairs in a staggered formation, divided into five stations. This provides the clients plenty of privacy.
The facilities for night-time dialysis are also very impressive: each patient has a private room with bathroom. The independent treatment centre currently serves more than 70 patients who visit two or three times a week, and the number is growing every year. This equates to roughly 10,000 treatments per year. The experienced dialysis nurses work closely with doctors at the VU University Medical Centre.
The dialysis rooms offer chairs upholstered with extra thick memory foam padding and the latest communication and entertainment systems, for example. The dialysis clinic for outpatient care is open from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm. A kidney dialysis treatment takes an average of four hours, throughout which the client is connected to the dialysis equipment. Temporary disconnection is not always possible, as some of the kidney patients suffer from underlying problems.
These clients are not mobile during treatment and cannot go to the toilet. Should the need nevertheless arise, for people with a stoma for instance, this must be done carefully at the dialysis station. In keeping with the desire to provide maximum comfort, Diapriva feels very strongly about maintaining air quality in the room and has now found the solution.
The local consultant assessed the situation along with Jos van ’t Walderveen, operations manager of Diapriva. The dialysis room is equipped with a sophisticated air circulation system, yet increasing the volume of airflow would result in unacceptable drafts. The installation of air purifiers in the suspended ceilings was determined to be the right approach; filtering and recirculation of the indoor air at low velocity was the solution.
Air purifiers are distributed throughout the clinic, one per dialysis station. These VisionAir air cleaners containing more than 4 kg of activated carbon. The filters, which adsorb a broad spectrum of gaseous components, are changed every six months under a service contract.
Mr. Jos van ’t Walderveen: “This project was carried out very professionally. The timetable was provided in advance and the work was carried out according to schedule. It all went very smoothly. What is particularly noticeable since the installation of the air purifiers is that the peaks of odour nuisance are less intense and that the air quality quickly returns to normal levels.”
The VisionAir Blue Line air cleaner from Euromate improves indoor air quality significantly. It provides a fresh, pleasant working environment and has a positive impact on productivity and sick leave. The air is recirculated, polluted indoor air is cleaned and clean air is blown back into the room. That way no valuable heated or cooled air is lost.
The modern design of the VisionAir Blue Line fits well in every interior. Moreover, the air cleaner produces little noise and is very user-friendly in operation. To spread an extra fresh scent throughout the room, the air cleaners can be equipped with Free Breeze scent cartridges.
