Diapriva, Dialysis Centre Amsterdam Buitenveldert, started in June 2008 with renal replacement therapy in their brand new building. Dialysis treatment is provided during the day, night and holidays in a homey atmosphere. The dialysis clinic for outpatient care has 20 dialysis chairs in a staggered formation, divided into five stations. This provides the clients plenty of privacy. The facilities for night-time dialysis are also very impressive: each patient has a private room with bathroom. The independent treatment centre currently serves more than 70 patients who visit two or three times a week, and the number is growing every year. This equates to roughly 10,000 treatments per year. The experienced dialysis nurses work closely with doctors at the VU University Medical Centre.

THE CHALLENGE

Diapriva places great importance on the patient’s comfort during its top quality dialysis treatments. The dialysis rooms offer chairs upholstered with extra thick memory foam padding and the latest communication and entertainment systems, for example. The dialysis clinic for outpatient care is open from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm. A kidney dialysis treatment takes an average of four hours, throughout which the client is connected to the dialysis equipment. Temporary disconnection is not always possible, as some of the kidney patients suffer from underlying problems. These clients are not mobile during treatment and cannot go to the toilet. Should the need nevertheless arise, for people with a stoma for instance, this must be done carefully at the dialysis station. In keeping with the desire to provide maximum comfort, Diapriva feels very strongly about maintaining air quality in the room and has now found the solution.

THE SOLUTION

The local consultant assessed the situation along with Jos van ’t Walderveen, operations manager of Diapriva. The dialysis room is equipped with a sophisticated air circulation system, yet increasing the volume of airflow would result in unacceptable drafts. The installation of air purifiers in the suspended ceilings was determined to be the right approach; filtering and recirculation of the indoor air at low velocity was the solution. Air purifiers are distributed throughout the clinic, one per dialysis station. These are VisionAir1 units fitted with a CarbonMax filter containing more than 4 kg of activated carbon. These filters, which adsorb a broad spectrum of gaseous components, are changed every six months under a service contract. Mr. Jos van ’t Walderveen: “This project was carried out very professionally. The timetable was provided in advance and the work was carried out according to schedule. It all went very smoothly. What is particularly noticeable since the installation of the air purifiers is that the peaks of odour nuisance are less intense and that the air quality quickly returns to normal levels.”

VISIONAIR BUILT-IN

The VisionAir air purifier can be equipped with various types of main filter, depending on the specific situation. The CarbonMax filter is one of these main filters and is specifically intended to remove unpleasant odours and VOCs from indoor air. This filter contains more than 4 kg of activated carbon and is designed to adsorb gases and odours to the greatest extent possible. The unique V-shaped filter construction provides extremely effective operation, on the one hand because the air remains in the filter longer and is therefore more thoroughly cleaned and on the other hand because the large surface area of the filter can process a greater volume of air. Ideal for removing pungent odours!

Features of the VisionAir:
• Effective extraction and filtration
• Large range
• Mounting options: wall, floor, ceiling
