Clean indoor air is necessary in times of COVID-19

Now that more and more people are indoors due to bad weather, we reiterate the importance of a good indoor air standard. You can read more about it in this blog.

Spread of the COVID-19 virus in indoor areas
More and more studies show that aerosols play a major role in the transmission of the COVID-19 virus in indoor spaces. If you are in a room that is not well ventilated, this can cause infections. This is already recognized in Germany and America and measures are being taken to make indoor spaces COVID-19 proof. This can be done with the help of good ventilation and air cleaners. For example, the city of New York has bought 10,000 air cleaners for the 1,800 schools in the city. In the Netherlands, the spread of the virus through aerosols is unfortunately not yet officialy recognized, so that necessary measures are not taken.

New indoor air standard necessary
At Euromate we believe that everyone has the right to clean indoor air. However, the indoor environment is not monitored in the Netherlands and, due to a lack of legal requirements, there is hardly any supervision or enforcement. This is a great loss, especially with regard to COVID-19. We support an adjustment of the standard for indoor air as indicated in the Delta Plan Ventilation. It argues for a higher ventilation rate in indoor spaces with regard to air circulation. This is now too low to effectively eliminate aerosols, but also other air pollution such as fine particulate. It is increasingly being indicated that, in addition to an up-to-date HVAC (ventilation) system, there should preferably also be equipment to filter the virus from the air.

A survey that we recently conducted among more than 1,000 employees and managers in SMEs shows that many managers struggle with the unclear COVID-19 guidelines on ventilation. Many companies do not know how ventilation is arranged and which measures must be taken to make the office COVID-19 proof.

The solution for a COVID-19 proof working environment
This is what you can do. Our research shows that after the corona outbreak, half of the employees mainly continued to work in the office. If no ventilation precautions are taken, the risks of contamination are high. Our air cleaner, the VisionAir Blue Line MicrobeFree, ensures a safer working environment. Independent research has shown that 99.95% of the sucked-in air is filtered from various types of pollution. With the help of our air cleaners, offices and meeting rooms can be made COVID-19 proof. Employees can then breathe a sigh of relief and your company can keep running in these difficult times.

Costs of a sick employee versus making the office COVID-19 proof
In an earlier blog we calculated that the absenteeism of a sick employee with an average annual income in the Netherlands costs more than € 410 per day. With a mandatory short quarantine where working from home is not possible and a replacement is not sought, this amounts to almost € 200. Apart from these costs, the current corona measures are causing an economic downturn and health damage that may continue to affect generations after us.

One air cleaner costs approximately € 116 per month on a lease basis. In an average meeting room it is advisable to place two cleaners for a total of € 232 per month. The air cleaners are mobile and can therefore also be used in other rooms. Do the math yourself and take action!
